We recruit, train and support a pool of tutors who work in classrooms with learners already studying English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE).
We operate in conjunction with the Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and are funded by the MA Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education and a Community Development Block Grant.
Do you read the newspaper? Can you fill out forms and applications? Can you write a check? For many adults in Holyoke such daily tasks are difficult. These adults may have left school at an early age or without learning basic skills. many are locked out of economic opportunity, being unable to speak, read or write in English. Many such people enroll in adult education programs such as The Holyoke Tutoring/Mentoring Program, which works to bridge this gap and expand opportunities.
